For nine months, a pregnant mother has experienced the best of two worlds, the good and the bad. The whole phase of pregnancy required the mother to do wearisome caring for health of her baby. When the baby is finally born, the wearisome care will be translated to a more mind-numbing responsibility. Therefore, it is vital for every mother, even fathers, to take part in the preparation of the baby's arrival. After all, the baby is worth the wait, effort and the responsibility that comes with it.

Initially, the exceptional bond created between the mother and the baby typically begins during the breastfeeding phase. Breastfeeding undoubtedly builds that extraordinary contact between the mother and her child. It is vital for the mother to take care of herself even more and ensure that she has sufficient milk being produce in her breasts. This can be achieved by drinking more than enough water everyday to prevent dehydration and possible headaches. With supplements being taken daily, the mother will be assisted in her milk production through sufficient lactation.

Graco My Ride

Regardless of the challenges being encountered during child rearing, mothers should always take extra measures in keeping themselves healthy at all times. She has to find time to rest and regularly exercise to stay fit. It is also necessary for mothers to contemplate on buying baby accessories that will assist them in a lot of ways. These accessories may include baby cribs, car seats, blankets, toys, strollers and the baby carrier.

Baby carriers are one of the most important tool in helping parents transport their babies in the safest and most secure way without having to carry them all the time using your arms. Parents may choose from a wide variety of baby carriers such as back pack carriers, front carriers, framed back or soft back carriers. The key to finding the best baby carrier for your child is to choose the type that will work well for you and your baby. Doctors would recommend the use of front carriers to make sure that you see your child all the time apart from the special bond that it promotes between parents and babies.

Furthermore, car seats are also widely being used most especially if you want to prevent possible car accidents to happen. This equipment keeps the baby safe and secured in one place when you drive. Always place your baby on the backseat and never ever on the passenger seat beside the driver's seat.

The most commonly used baby equipment that is necessary in all homes with babies is the crib as it serves as your baby's personal space and bed. Every parent would want their baby to have a safe sounding sleep. Thus, it is best that you choose the crib that is most comfortable. Baby cribs come in three kinds, the standard, the convertible and the canopy crib. Most parents would lean towards buying a canopy type of crib as it gives a classic touch. This crib type has metal borders on top with four large posts one each side while convertible cribs are capable of being translated to a toddler bed. It is known to be an expensive type of crib as it also comes with durability that can last for many years. On the other hand, the usual standard crib comes in two models, the single and double drop sides. Standard double drop side type is convenient to use but the standard single drop side model is more stable.

Alternatively, baby strollers can assist babies when they walk and further develop their sense of balance. It is also important that parents choose the most comfortable stroller for their baby because the little ones get easily irritated that may be caused by the rough linings or irregular pillows.

Soft and light blankets are also required to ensure a good night sleep for your baby. In addition, toys can also keep your babies engaged. You have to make certain that you give the proper toys that suit their age. It may also help if you sing lullabies to your child when putting him/her to sleep. Another concern would be the insects that may come near your baby. To prevent mosquito bites, you have to make your baby wear extended covering their ankles and wrists provided that the weather is cold. If not, you can apply an insect repellent lotion or spray specifically made for babies.

Most of all, it is very crucial to provide the best and the healthiest environment for your baby apart from the material things he/she may require. You have to ensure that all rooms in the house are always clean since babies do not have a strong immune system yet that will shield them from getting sick. Even the simplest illness like colds or flu can already cause major discomfort to your fragile baby.

Lastly, you have to uphold an equal treatment among your children especially if you presently have other kids in your household. It is just vital that you give the same level assurance to your other children that the new baby will not forever be the center of everyone's attention. By assigning them particular responsibilities, they will take charge of certain things in giving care and support for your baby.

Baby Swings - Must Have Gear!

Our babies loved nap time in their swings - very sweet pictures from those days. They got to fall asleep in the room with me which was very relaxing for both of us. When they had a fussy moment, the swing was the spot - and much less expensive than a long drive! When I was home alone and needed to take a shower or do some laundry while my son was awake, the baby swing was my lifesaver. (I am also a big fan of baby bouncy seats - excellent baby shower gift.)

My baby swing was my "extra pair" pair of hands while I was home alone. The baby swing's soothing motion would calm or entertain my boys, depending on what they were needing at the time.

Graco My Ride

Must-have baby swing features:

Stability: A wide base and low center of gravity is a must so your swing won't tip over if baby manages to lean too far in one direction.

Seat Belts: again, a must and the 5-point harness is best. Just like in a car seat, newborns are good at sliding out of inadequate seat belt systems.

Battery Vs. Wind-Up: Wind-ups are usually compellingly less expensive, but the winding mechanism on ours was so noisy, we finally sold the wind-up and sprang for the battery. Battery-operated baby swings are easier to operate and usually feature more speeds and music settings to match baby's mood.

Speed: Sometimes, your baby will like to be gently rocked, sometimes - especially when fussy - she might like a bit more determined swing. I'd advise getting a swing with at least a couple speeds (you don't need many!)

Sounds: Your baby may have preferences for music. If your baby swing plays music, make sure there is a volume control as well as an off switch! My boys didn't go for the music, preferring the house sounds or none at all. If your swing does play music, make sure you can handle the repetition.

Recline: If you will use your baby swing with your newborn (and mine loved it), make sure yours has a newborn recline position. Your newborn can't hold her head up, nor can she avoid slouching forward - definitely need the recline. Your older babies will appreciate when they fall asleep, too! Make sure you can easily reach the recline mechanism so you can recline the seat after your baby falls asleep.

Open Top: An open top baby swing allows you to lift your baby out without bumping his head on an upper bar. Thank goodness someone thinks of these things!

Flip-Out Tray: A flip-out or fold-up tray is another must-have feature! You can remove your baby gently and lessen any chance of scraping baby's legs on the tray.

Toy Bars: Toy bars and mobiles, lights, sounds and music all offer ways to help baby stay entertained! Neither of my boys were really interested in them, though. They liked their familiar toys in the swing with them, their favorite blankie or nothing. I usually removed the toys so they could see what was happening around them.

Portability: If being able to take the swing with you is important, look for a portable swing. They are full size swings but in a compact body.

We put off getting a baby swing for a bit, I was convinced it was "cheating"... I thought every convenience was cheating!!! Yeah, a little nuts! I finally got too tired to keep up that guilty charade. Once I had my swing and saw how much the boys enjoyed it, the baby swing made it to the must-have list.

Check for baby swing recalls (thank you, consumerreports.org):

The following companies make Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association-certified swings: Dorel Juvenile Group (Safety 1st), Fisher-Price, Graco, J. Mason, Kolcraft, and Simplicity. Swings are also covered by the federal safety standard for small parts. Some models of baby swings have been recalled in recent years. Problems have included loose screws on the swing's arm support that caused the seat to separate and drop to one side, a seat that wasn't properly attached, swing frames that weren't stable, frames or seats with sharp edges, harnesses that could entangle a child, and hazardous toys. One recalled model could be easily disassembled, resulting in a loose seat that flipped forward. For a list of baby swing recalls, go to the CPSC Web site, http://www.cpsc.gov.

Woodworkers - Are You Still Using A Hammer?

As an avid do-it-your-selfer and amateur woodworker, I have swung my share of hammers. Many times I've gotten to the point where I did not think I had the strength to drive even one more nail! If you've been there, you know what I mean.

The last few projects I've done, a large deck to put a new hot tub on, new counter tops in my kitchen, and a vanity cabinet, I used air driven nail guns. If you have never used a pneumatic nail gun, you have no idea how much easier it is to build things. Not only easier, but more accurate, and a better-finished job.

Graco My Ride

Trim work is a breeze, using a pneumatic nail gun is like having an extra hand, you don't need to hold a nail to start it, all you have to do is hold the piece you are nailing in position with one hand, place the nail gun where you want to drive the nail and pull the trigger. The nails that are used are coated so they lubricate as they go into the wood, that same coating melts because of the speed and pressure that the nail is driven under, and acts as a glue, helping make a much more secure attachment. Also because of the driving speed, splitting is almost eliminated.

Pneumatic tools have been around for years, however they were very expensive, and out of reach for most hobbyists and do-it-your-selfers, in the last few years they have become much more affordable and more readily available.

Part of the lower pricing and increased availability is due to the influx of imported tools and compressors, which are generally priced lower. Lower price does not always equate to an inferior product. If you shop around you should be able to find very high quality imported pneumatic tools at amazing prices. Mainstream manufacturers, bitten by falling sales, have begun introducing more affordable tools and compressors, and the high quality is still there.

One of the other welcome developments is the increasing availability of factory reconditioned tools, you can find reconditioned framing nail guns for under 0, that sold new for about 0, in some cases they even have a new tool warranty.

A portable electric 2-4hp air compressor with a 2-6 gallon air tank, which is sufficient for most projects, can be had for under a 0.00. Air hoses and accessories are readily available and inexpensive.

I use an electric drive 2hp air compressor with a 6 gallon tank. I have a framing nailer that drives either full round or clipped head stick feed nails up to 3 ½ inches, a finish nailer that drives up to 2 inch finish nails, and another finish nailer that drives up to 1 inch finish nails as well as up to 1 inch staples. All are equipped with quick disconnect couplings to allow me to quickly change tools.

I still do on occasion have to use a hammer, however I'll bet the one I use now will last forever!

Happy Building

If you are looking for a toy for your child, then a ride on toy baby is a sure way for how you will entertain your child for a longer time. And 'big toy to move, exercise and play. It offers a lot of fun.

Before Wheely Bug

Graco My Ride

One of the most recommended for toys is the Wheely Bug. This is only a toy that provides lots of fun for children aged 1-5 The animal and bug characters inspire creativity in the game. This rideon toy is built well for its target audience.

You will like the giggles that come along with the Wheely Bug or Cow and will also like that the seat surface is easy to clean. While this toy can be slightly tipsy when all the wheels face to the side, the toy's low profile makes it unlikely that a child would fall far enough to be seriously hurt.

2. Ride On Toy Train

This is a kid powered ride-on that helps your child develop muscles and motor skills. Your little boy or girl can sit and steer the train anywhere. Train could also be used as a first steps walker while pushing the handle on the back. No tracks could hold your little engineer with this train.

3. The Rock, Roll & Ride Trike

A sturdy Trike with three fun ways to ride! Lock the base in place for ride-on, rocking fun. As your child grows, the base converts to an extra long push handle so you can comfortably stroll behind while they learn to pedal. When they're ready to ride on their own, the handle removes, seat adjusts and foot pegs fold up for easy independent pedaling.

I gave it to my son when he was one year. He is two and still uses it every day. Its extremely sturdy and balanced and is not prone to tipping.

4. Schwinn Roadster

This is honestly the perfect trike. My parents bought this for my daughter for her 2nd birthday and we couldn't be more pleased with it. It's sturdy, has the ability to be adjusted for greater longevity.
Its extremely safe.

Toddler ride on toy offers a lot of fun and creative play for your kid. Your children will enjoy this toy for the long period of time (1 - 5 year). I would recommend it for every toddler. You can find a lot of different types for girls or boys.

Get your child to take their meal

Have sometimes found it difficult to eat all their meals smaller.

When I was in my child-bearing age, a pediatrician told my kids every time they do not eat at every meal, do not worry, you will not starve. My son was so. It was from a nap and grumpy, and not eating his lunch. Well, I would sit down and finger food on the table in the living room, where he played. There was not much, cheese, meat for lunch in a smallPieces, or a sandwich cut into four small pieces, just big enough for her small hands. It lasted not long, the plate was clean.

Graco My Ride

Another thing I did when I ate my children always said they make me happy dish. They would clean up all their food and make sure I've seen her dish happy. Of course, you have to make a big deal out of it, and make it a game. Let's see who happily the first disk. My children are 30 and 33, and I find myself saying to them, make me aPlate happy. I also said that for my husband. Of course I looked strange, until I told him the story of a happy plate. He tells me to do the same.

My daughter has made the record of his son happy. Everything seemed to work fine. Well, until he grew up and started school. Now think about that stuff girl.

I can almost bet they do the same when it has its own small, and do not want to eat.
Try it and see if it workswith your children. The race will be happy the first course.

Get your child to take their meal

If the parents are blessed with twins or multiples, are obviously to get at least twice as much work, twice fed the baby and deal with double the costs. It 'nice to see that there are at least some affordable options for parents. The Quattro Tour Duo Stroller, Graco tandem stroller, falls into this category. This duo stroller is a full-featured stroller, inexpensive. Let's take a look at some of the subtleties of the Duo:

FourTour Duo seats accommodate two SnugRide or infant safe seat car seats - this means that you start to walk. This car seats from Graco can simply be out of the car to the stroller and moves the other way - to sleep without your children. The child car seat can easily snap and lock in the stroller for a safer ride. Both seats are removable canopies than enough, cradle, as a cover for your children.

Graco My Ride

A 3 - and 5-pointBelt system is equipped with seats with the duo seat. Seatbelts to 5 points can be made to convert to a 3-point, if your children are older. Research tells us that it is quite common for parents to go to the 3-point belt placed for your convenience and comfort for their child.

If you have several children, you know what I mean when I say that you must bring a lot of baby gear. I used to, review, and a lot of hikers and I must say that in comparisonthe duo, I've never seen or heard from a stroller with more memory. In my opinion, the Quattro Tour Duo, hands down, has more space than any other stroller.

Features

A 3-point reclining seat Washable seat covers 3 - and 5-belts The seats are Graco SnugRide Infant seating and safe car seat He has two pounds to 90 children. Total - 50 pounds. Front and 40 lbs. Back Removable Roof Cup holder and snack trayfor passengers Easy one hand fold Ergonomically shaped handles Extra large drop down basket for easy access Rear brakes Front suspension Wheels swivel 360 degrees Lock on the front straight
Benefits

Walking with two small children in their car seats Easy to open and close the stroller duo Save all the equipment for children, food and toys in a duo extra large storage basket Provide additional protection for children with large, removable, canopies Use the Duo stroller for years from infant car seats to 90 lbs. Conveniently secure your children into the Duo stroller with either the 3- or the 5-point harnesses
Who's using this stroller?

Parents who either have twins or two young toddlers Parents who want good value for their dollar use the Duo stroller. Parents find this stroller to be a good value for two reasons: 1 - you get a lot of features for a reasonable price and 2 - You can use this stroller for years... from infancy to a total of 90 lbs.
What's working well?

Transferring your children from the car to the stroller couldn't be easier. Not all twin strollers accommodate two infant car seats - so if you are blessed with multiple infants, consider the Quattro Tour Duo for the infant car seat carrying capability. As I mentioned earlier, you get a lot of storage space with the Quattro Tour Duo. But what I didn't mention was how easy it is to load and unload gear to and from the storage basket. Graco has an amazing lower and load feature where the rear portion of the storage basket can be lowered for incredible easy access. The one thing that surprised me about the Duo strollers is its easy-fold capability. I assumed that since the Duo was such a large, heavy-duty stroller that I'd have to give up the easy fold capability that Graco offers with its standard / single strollers. My assumption was incorrect, the Duo stroller easily folds and unfolds with one hand. This feature is fantastic for parents with multiple children who's hands always seem to be occupied - imagine that.
What's not working well?

I'm sure that Graco's SnugRide and Infant SafeSeat car seats / travel systems are fantastic and they work very well. But I've been talking with lots of parents who consider lack of choice a detriment. In my opinion, Graco would sell a heck of a lot more strollers if they would support other manufacturers' infant car seats. Graco's strollers are only compatible with the Graco SnugRider and the Graco Infant SafeSeat... adding others' strollers to their compatibility list would give us choice - and this, in turn, would remove purchase decision obstacles Many parents I spoke with opted to 'not' get the Quattro Tour Duo because of the weight. Having a full featured twin stroller that weighs 39 lbs. is not for everyone. You'll pay a lot more money for a lightest, feature-rich twins - so the trade-off is clear enough ... Weight compared to the convenience.
Why you should buy this stroller?

If you have two small children and you should look for a stroller that is convenient. If you have a twin stroller, which is packed with features If you are looking for a stroller that a lot of space under the seats
Why "not" should buy this stroller?

If you have or do not want to buy or Gracoinfant car seats. If you are looking for a lighter stroller - in other words, if you can't lift 39 pounds in and out of your automobile. If you are looking for a stroller that's easier to maneuver.
Other Strollers to Consider

Joovy Caboose - A lightweight sit and stand stroller that is ideal for parents who have two children close in age. Parents who have, at least, one child who is over two years old... so he or she can sit or stand on Joovy's unique rear platform. The Peg Perego Duette SW stroller - A tandem stroller that has all the stroller features you can imagine - large wheels, all-wheel suspension, adjustable, forward/rear facing, seats... it even includes a steering wheel!
Recommendation

Parents of 2 young infant or toddler children are certainly blessed but as we all know raising multiple children is a lot of work. Finding a reasonably priced stroller that has lots of practical features is a God-send. The Stroller Shop recommends the Quattro Tour Duo stroller to parents who are looking for great value in their stroller.

Double strollers aren't just for twins anymore. In fact many parents are purchasing them when they have a new baby and a toddler who is still young enough to ride in a stroller. Anyone who has ever braved the outside world with a baby and toddler in tow, knows how hectic even little trips to the store can be. A double stroller can ease the burden and make time out with two children more enjoyable.

The Baby Trend Double Sit N Stand Stroller

Graco My Ride

This double stroller from Baby Trend is one of the most models with parents. There have been some double strollers reviews pages that have missed out on reviewing this popular product. Here's my personal Baby Trend Sit and Stand Double Review.

Safety Features

The Baby Trend Sit n Stand, item number SS76045, has all the safety features a parent could wish for. For me, the sturdiness of a stroller is the most important safety feature. No one wants to take two kids out on a stroller that can't stand up to the burden. The Baby Trend Sit N Stand Stroller is up to the task and locks into place securely.

Besides being sturdy and durable, this tandem also features the safety extras that you need. It has secure straps to keep the kids buckled in and locking wheels to prevent rolling when your hands are off the stroller. Overall my double stroller ratings for safety are as high as possible for the Baby Trend item number SS76045.

Other Stroller Features

There are plenty of other features that make the Baby Trend Double Sit N Stand is the best choice for your little ones. It is easy to fold and unfold. Simple to get in and out of any car and has lots of nice little extras that every parent will love. This really is one of the best strollers I have ever seen. You may not find lots of reviews that go into detail about this safe, easy to use and affordable model, but it gets my hearty recommendation to any parent with two young children.

The Britax B-dual is one of the most recent tandem stroller on the market and designed by a brand that has achieved the best performance for some infant carriers on the market have a lot to live up to their first double buggy.

From the first appearance of the B-dual is impressive. The frame has a stylish design looks ultra modern and elegant. It has a T-shaped frame, with an adjustable handlebar and the seat has a high positioning accuracy, so you can stay in close contactwith your favorite and get a good view of the world go by. On a practical note, it is a very generous and easily accessible basket under the seat of the stroller.

Graco My Ride

The Britax Duo is modular so that you travel to get flexible options - you can choose either stroller, sit down with more seat to completely flat; mode pram or travel system - simply by adding or car seat or bag units vector with the frame. Both the seat andTransport units if they are of very good quality, high standards of safety and thoughtfully created to offer a trip comfortable and convenient for the child. Their elegant design and style is also good for children's car styling combined.

But the biggest negative about the B-dual, like many other tandem stroller is that the stroller and travel system mode can only be used with a child on board. The second seat units can only occur when the stroller is in its way buggy. So if you're going toto use the stroller for a child and the child is only able to use the seat back for the child.

As you would expect from a high quality stroller, the B-dual suspensions has strong, lockable swivel wheels and an adjustable calf support, so you get a comfortable ride and bump-free and a nice feature is not puncture-proof tires, so that the advantages of pneumatic wheels without the problem of coping with problems.

The Britax B-Dual is very similar to the increasingly popularPhil and Teds buggy design in line, except maybe a little 'more modern and elegant. The in-line tandem design, with the second seat can be solved, and very flexible, which is critical, wallet-friendly - ideal if you have a new baby and an older child who will soon be walking. If child is ready to take off full-time, you can simply return the seat and use the stroller as a single journey. All in all, there is no doubt that the B-Dual is a great investment, a well-designed versatile and flexibleTandem, which most likely also the only stroller double stroller or even that you ever need!

Double Prams - Two Kids in One Stroller

A double pram is typically a stroller or carriage that has been built for two children. There are a host of models but typically the children either ride face to face, front to back or side to side. One is a must have for the parents of multiples, or parents to children very close in age. Traveling around with children that are twins or very close in age is very difficult without one.

Most double prams come in a variety of colors geared toward male or female children, than there are a host of prams that are geared toward gender neutral colors. There are those that are suited for rough terrains; there are those that are geared toward portability. Many are made with removable seats, multi position seats, conversion abilities for when the children get older. Most have built in accessories like cup holders, bags or baskets to lug around baby gear. Some are very simple, fold very compactly for travel and are lightweight. There are prams that are built like the popular umbrellas strollers, some have sun shields and a whole slew of other bells and whistles.

Graco My Ride

The prices vary greatly and really are dependent on what features the they have. For a top of the line model it is very easy to spend well over five hundred dollars, for a simple portable model the cost is much lower, around two hundred dollars. The cost may seem rather high, but when considering what it would be like to travel with two children without a place for one of them to sit, the cost seems rather minimal.

A good place to start looking for double prams is the classified ads, buying them second hand is a sensible thing to do. Buying one second hand will save some money and keep an additional object out of the landfill. A second handed one work just as well as a brand new one, at a fraction of the cost. If scouring thrift shops and classified ads does not result in finding any second hand prams, then looking through sale items at the local baby goods store is a good place to find them on sale.

Double prams can be real lifesavers to parents of multiples or of parents with children close in age, they afford the caregiver some freedom to walk about.

Babies Learn While Playing

Most parents know that their babies are learning while playing. However, they are not too sure what exactly is being learned.

Play is a natural way by which babies learn to understand the world around them, and to develop skills to cope with their world as they grow.

Graco My Ride

What babies learn as they play is varied:

o Emotionally the game of peek-a -boo in its simplest form teaches baby security. He is reassured that mother is always there although she may seem to disappear for a while as she opens and closes her eyes, or as she uses a hand to cover them, or as she calls to him from behind his cot and he has to turn his eyes towards the sound of her voice. Sometimes she may show and then hide a favourite toy and he has to crawl to look for both mother and the toy.

It may take a little time for baby to develop this sense of security but time spent on playing this game is worth it when you see him becoming more and more confident.

o Physically babies learn to adjust the degree of strength they need to exert as they play with push-pull toys and doll carriages.

They also learn to develop their sense of balance as they sit on and ride large toy vehicles, climb other types of climbing toys, and even the stairs.

o Babies show creativity and artistic talent when drawing with big, crayons and finger paints, or knead and pull play dough. They are learning about textures, colours and images.

o Early problem solving skills are learned when babies play outside in the sand box. As he scoops, pours and digs in the sand, he is learning to manipulate his surroundings.

Later he may learn to sort and group objects like twigs and pebbles he plays with in the garden.

He may play with blocks of different sizes and shapes and while stacking and knocking them over again and again, or fitting them into containers based on shapes, he will learn how to problem solve.

o Babies learn social skills as they play with stuffed animals, dolls and toys. For example mothers often ask babies to point to or group 'Daddy Bear,' 'Mummy Bear,' and 'Baby Bear' together, thus teaching him about the family. Or she may teach him that unsociable behavior like spitting out food deliberately is unacceptable by telling off a doll that it has done wrong to spit out food.

o When parents read large, cupboard picture books with their babies they are building his communication skills. Turn each page slowly as baby sits on your lap. Mothers should point to and articulate each action and describe each figure on the page. Role play the appropriate actions and sounds found in the book for baby and he will remember their associated words over time. Leave books in easily accessible places for baby to select and look at and he will 'read' and articulate what he sees in his own baby words. All these help him develop academic skills.

o Allow baby to express his love and affection, or dislike for any of his stuffed animals or toys. In this way he is working out his feelings without fear of being punished for doing something unacceptable as considered from adult eyes. Mothers need to probe for the reasons for his negative feelings and then encourage baby through words and actions to 'forgive' and develop more positive feelings for the particular stuffed animal, doll or toy.

Happy playing and teaching!
Pat

Babies Learn While Playing

Your child is a child in the true sense of the word at this stage of development. He walks and talks more. He interacts more with the things and people around him. It can begin to sign the "terrible twos" when upset or has tantrums when things do not enforce his will.

The Phil and Teds Explorer Stroller 2010

Newly designed for 2010, the Explorer stroller from Phil & Teds is the stroller to have. Native to New Zealand, the company has been producing best-selling strollers for over a decade. The original E3 Explorer became an instant success and was the 2006 winner of the "UK Mother & Baby Silver Award", the most prestigious parent's choice award in the UK. One of the most important features of the Phil & Teds stroller is the ability of consumers to purchase a Doubles Kit and convert the stroller to a compact double tandem rather than purchasing a separate doubles stroller. This unique feature becomes relevant since estimates claim 75% of new parents will have a second child within four years of the birth of their first child.

The new five-in-one Sport Buggy lays flat in position one, which is the recommended position for a newborn. This padded seat with a five-point harness system allows for the baby to sleep comfortably, and mothers can easily change diapers without removing their child from the stroller. In the second stage, the seat moves from an upright to a reclining position for a toddler. For the growing family, a Doubles Kit can be added to the front or back of the Sport with a simple click, creating a double buggy to accommodate the toddler while using the flat position for a newborn in stage three. In the final stage, two toddlers can both ride in upright or reclining positions with a maximum weight capacity of fifty-five pounds. The Doubles Kit may also be used in combination with Phil & Teds Lazy Ted as an infant bouncer or toddler seat.

Graco My Ride

The New Explorer Stroller 2010 offers numerous updated features in answer to specific concerns and requests from purchasers of the sport. Seats are tailored and a crotch restraint with adjustable Velcro offers a more secure ride for infants on the main seat and on the Doubles Kit. The seat on the Doubles Kit now reclines for sleeping infants. The frame of the Sport locks in place after closing and folding the stroller. Wheels are quickly released with one easy touch and the wheel axles are made of solid steel. The redesigned and sleeker canopy offers a peek-a-boo window with a transparent vinyl pouch to store personal items. The parcel tray also offers pockets for extra storage and the handle is now adjustable for height with ergonomic shaping. The Phil & Teds Sport has a removable Grab Bar and is now offered in more colors.

The new Explorer by Phil and Teds Single still retains features relevant to the popularity of the original E3 Explorer. The front wheel can adjust from fixed to smooth ride swivel for advanced control of the buggy. The dual rear brake is easy to release; the compact alloy frame weighs only 24 pounds and can be folded with ease. The tires are inflatable, easy to maneuver around tight corners, and the stroller fabric is both washable and waterproof. Even though it has not been designated as a full-time jogging stroller, Phil & Teds Explorer Buggy can comfortably withstand almost any type of terrain at a brisk pace, especially with the lockable front wheel. Britax, Graco, and Evenflo car seat capsules are compatible with the new Sport Buggy with the use of Phil & Teds Travel System. The company offers a one-year manufacturer's warranty on the buggy for free of charge repair or complete replacement.

Many young parents have misconceptions about when you and your baby safe in public. It is a widespread belief that once the child has his first set of shots, which are protected and go out in public. Unfortunately this is not the case.

Young children are with an immune system that the disease was born inexperienced. Their system is based on immunity from the mother for the first 4-6 months, but only if the child was born after 36-37 weeks. ThisType of immunity has been developed as a "passive immunity placental" and helps the child to prevent disease only, with respect to the mother's immunity as a cold or chickenpox recently. Infants breastfed receive additional immunity from mother's milk, that as long as breastfeeding continues continues. Even in a perfect world, a sick child to be exposed to someone who is ill. A bad cold for an adult or a child has a bad cold ... but this may constitute a seriousRisk of infection for a child requires hospitalization.

Graco My Ride

Children receive their first set of vaccines at the age of 2 months. Serious diseases, are immune to include diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, influenza B haemophyllis, pneumococcal, polio, hepatitis B and rotovirus. These are just some of the diseases that children can contract, but they are among the largest. Other diseases, both bacterial and viral infections, may have different diseases in infants. An example of this is that bronchiolitis causedby a respiratory virus that attacks the lower respiratory tract in infants causing severe asthma-like symptoms. Hospitalization may be required to help the infant breathe properly and to get enough oxygen. So having immunizations is not the answer to keeping your infant completely healthy.

Protecting your infant from illness should be a high priority for new parents. Here are several tips for preventing illness:

* limit visitors & only to those that are not sick
* prevent children from touching the baby & definitely do not allow them near the baby if they are coughing or sneezing
* do not allow too many people to hold the baby
* do not take your infant out in public places where there could be a lot of people
* it is ok to take your baby for a car ride or out in the stroller for a walk
* wash your hands with antibacterial soap & ask visitors to do the same
* breastfeed your baby to provide them with passive immunity
* if you have another child who is sick, ask family members to take them for you or isolate mother and baby in the bedroom and have dad take care of the sick child

Do not be persuaded by assertive relatives and friends to be near your infant if they are sick. Remember, you are the ones that will have to deal with a sick baby and possible hospitalization.

Worms in Children - How to Treat Them and Avoid Them

  • Digg

Thread worms are thriving everyday in the bottoms of little children and affecting their daily activities and causing sleepless nights for many families. It's not a nice experience but easily identified and treated. I am frequently finding worms a problem for our little pre-school aged non-sleepers and mum and dad are horrified. Worms are spread very easily in the community across all social backgrounds and generations. They are spread most commonly in pre-schoolers' because in my experience the only things toddlers share are germs (and love) and this age group are not always efficient at hand washing, particularly before eating.

How do we identify a child with worms?

Graco My Ride

*An infected child has an itchy bottom!! They will naturally be very irritable during the day, frustrated, uncooperative, fidgety, not be able to sit still, cannot concentrate, argumentative and angry. Often the most common reason for children trying to climb out of the cot is that they have worms.

*You might suspect someone performed a personality transplant on your little angel!

*They want to scratch their bottom and will commonly be seen taking their clothes or nappy off.

*They will walk strangely like they are trying to keep a coin safely between their buttocks and having trouble (imagine).

*They will frequently urinate and or bed wet at night.

*They will not be able to go to sleep and not be able to explain why to you, but will be crying and uncomfortable, not naughty.

What to look for

*If you suspect worms, look for a pinky/red rash about 2cm wide completely around the outside of the genital area

*If you wish to look for worms, keep the room dark, ask for your partners help, comfort the child and 'spring' a torch light onto the exposed bottom. The worms come out at night to lay eggs. This process creates the uncomfortableness and irritability. So in the night time only you will see 1.5cm long wriggling pieces of white sewing cotton, moving fast away from the light, around the anal passage. In girls the worms can crawl into the vagina and be even more irritable.

How to get rid of them

*Firstly, collect as many worms as you can see immediately and dispose of them. Your child will feel calmer after the worms have disappeared from the skin.

*If you have a daughter and you suspect they are in the vaginal area, you can very gently slightly spread open the outer labia (flaps of skin) and if you see any worms, gently roll them onto a cotton bud (q tip). Tissues and cotton balls are too large and you won't be able to see what you are doing. (personal experience) This will provide immediate relief from the irritation of the worms trying to lay eggs in this sensitive area

*Apply a thick layer of Vaseline to the anal area to provide temporary relief to the skin and catch any worms that come out again in the night.

*Wash in hot water/use the dryer/hot sun on all linen, towels and clothing worn by the child. Repeat for the whole family. The worms can live outside the body long enough to infect everyone.

*There are a variety of medications to offer your family. There are one dose liquids, orange chewable tablets and chocolate squares, please do the whole family the day you find the worms and then again 7 days later in case of re-infestation See your pharmacist for the appropriate dose and the minimum age.

*It's a good idea to keep the medication in your medicine cupboard (personal experience), it will be late at night that you discover them, the shops will be closed and no-one can sleep if anyone else has worms crawling out of their bottom!

*Please inform your pre-school/daycare centre if your child has them (even anonymously if embarrassed) so that other families can be on the look out for them and the centre's can be more proactive with hygiene and symptoms in other children. Always think about whether you would appreciate the warning if another child had worms and played with your child.

How do children get worms?

*Through their mouth.

*The worms come out at night to lay their eggs in the tissue around the anal passage, this causes the skin irritation.

*The child scratches their bottom because it's itchy.

*The eggs get under the finger nails and are spread onto everything the child touches: toys, toilets, taps, towels, pencils, chairs, etc.

*The next child/person touches the same objects and then....doesn't wash their hands before eating/ touching the face and they swallow them.

Tip The simplest form of infection control used in hospitals everyday that prevents doctors and nurses from catching all of the bugs in the hospitals is HAND WASHING. Make it a family routine that no-one eats before they have washed and thoroughly dried their hands. Encourage this at pre-school and day care as well. If we start young enough the children will think it as normal as cleaning their teeth before bed or kissing you good bye. It is up to us as parents to start and lead by example with these sensible habits.

Worms in Children - How to Treat Them and Avoid Them

Step 1 - What Kind of Daycare Would Work For your Child?

Who is Being Served?

Graco My Ride

The bottom line here is who is the customer? While many daycare or childcare facilities seek primarily to please the parents, those who ignore the children will always loose out in the long run. Why, because where a child is not satisfied, the parent is the first to know.

On the other hand, this should make you as the parent aware that the childcare facility or daycare will pull all the stops to ensure that you are impressed. Your role, however, becomes the pay attention to the customers that they already have. Are the children's hands and faces clean? Do you smell stale diapers? Are the teachers paying attention to the children - do they look them in the eye? What tone of voice do the teachers speak with?

How does your Child Learn?

My four year old, for example, has an outgoing personality - so outgoing that I have to pull her away from giving hugs to complete strangers at the mall. To her, every female senior citizen is yet another 'grandma'.

Well, we decided to enroll her at an excellent Montessori pre-school and it was a disaster! The freedom that is encouraged in the Montessori setting was seen as a license to socialize. When asked to choose an activity, she would try to help all the younger children in the class first. The result: all the work that she managed to bring home seemed to be incomplete. As an educator, I knew that something was not right, especially when I knew that she would complete the same types of activities at home for me with no problem.

After having been there seven months, we decided to move her to a more traditional school setting. Presto! After the settling down period, she settled in close to the top of her class.

The Montessori setting did not enhance her particular learning style. How does your child learn? What type of personality does your child have? Will the childcare facility or daycare of your choice be the perfect match for your child? I had to think this through carefully because the pre-school setting plays a large part in building the educational foundation for the child. Click on this link to read my article called 'How is Your Child Smart'?

Step 2 - Know What You Need
There is a fine balance to strike between the needs of your child and what is practical, but this is where I do my best to strike that balance.
As a parent you have practical needs that must be met; for example the daycare facility must be located somewhere that is either close to home or work. Does it have a drive up facility that will cover your vehicle if it is raining? Do the staff get the children out of our vehicle (often known as the kiss and ride service)?

Create a Picture in Your Mind

The first thing I'd encourage you to do is think of what the ideal daycare setting would be for your child. If money was no object and distance and time of no concern; what kind of daycare or childcare facility would you want your child to benefit from? Yes, it's ok to dream!

Take these thoughts and write them down. Add them to the checklist that I have created and take this to every facility that you go visit. When you have completed the tout of the building, make notes on how the facility meets your requirements. At this point, do not allow your budget to limit you. With economic times like these, you will be surprised at how flexible directors can be. Remember, you are the customer and they want your business.

Opening Hours

Does the daycare or childcare facility have opening and closing hours that suite your job? Is it close enough to your home or work? Does it give you enough time to get to the next point on your journey?

Food

When you look at the menu (it should be displayed by the entrance), does the food sound like food that your child will eat? Can you bring your own food? When is the last meal served? Will your child be coming home on a full or empty stomach? Are you (physically and financially) capable of cooking or purchasing fast food every night to feed your child?

Price/Budget

How much are the fees? What about the registration, activity and book fees? Are you expected to buy supplies too? Is lunch provided or is there a fee for the lunch that is provided? Find out about late fees. How much does it cost if you are fifteen minutes late picking up your child? If you know that there is a possibility that you might be late, can you afford to pay this amount?

Ask the director if there are any "special offers" or introductory rates. If you have a skill that might benefit the facility, offer to exchange your skill for a regular discount. Small business owners are always looking for somewhere to save money. Believe me, I've been there!

Peace of Mind

This is probably the most important indicator that this is the right place for your child. Take your child with you when you are doing the tours. Watch his or her reaction to the teachers, the facility and the children. If they can speak, ask them what they think of it, if they want to come back tomorrow.

Ask yourself these questions. Would you feel at ease leaving your child there every morning? Do you think that if you left your child there, there would be a nagging feeling deep down that something could be wrong? Do you think that your child would be happy with your choice?

The facility might look perfect on the outside, but take the time to listen to and trust you gut feelings.

Step 3 - Know What to Look For

Using Your Five Senses
Smell: The most important thing to do as you enter the daycare facility is to smell the air. The smell of diapers, damp or unappetizing food is a tell tale sign that there might be some neglect going on. Sniff as you go past trash cans (they should be covered) and most importantly, look out for smells coming from the children.

Sight: Keep your eyes peeled, as the saying goes! Look around the floor and in the corners for dead bugs (or their wings). Take the time to look up. Marks on the ceiling tiles, or water marks inside the light panels could be tell-tale signs of other hygiene issues. Take a peek into the director's office if you can - but remember that pre-school directors are extremely busy people.

Sound: Are the teachers yelling at the children? What kind of tone were they talking with before you walked into the room? Were the children under control, restrained or was there a balance between the two? The sounds of a classroom often depict the atmosphere. An uncontrolled classroom is often a reflection of a teacher who does not know classroom management or a teacher who does not have an engaging lesson plan. There are always exceptions (such as a hyper-active child), but good classroom management should be a priority because structure is said to be beneficial to the child.

Taste: If it is around snack or lunch time, feel free to ask if you can taste the food being served to the children. You may come across as being a little weird, but if they are not willing to give you some of the food, you might want to know the reason why.

Touch: As you walk through the daycare or childcare facility, run your finger on window ledges and on tables for dust and dirt. Touch the toys is you can - they should be sanitized and left to air dry every evening. Remember, children love to put toys in their mouth.

Step 4 - Know About the Facility

The Director

Most directors have been in the business for many years, and know the daycare business through and through. Occasionally, however, you may come across a director who just bought the business but has no experience in the industry. This can sometimes be a challenging combination, so find out as much as you can about your director before you part with that non-refundable registration fee.

The Facility

The childcare or daycare building usually speaks for itself. People are usually drawn towards the newer daycare buildings, but we need to look beyond the facility and focus on the level of care that is being provided within the walls of the building. While a neglected building should definitely ring alarm bells, don't allow a newer building to replace your instincts.

The Teachers

Observe as much as you can of the teachers. Do they come across as caring? What tone of voice do they have when things do not work the way they should? Do they pay attention to the children? What kind of qualifications do they have? What does your state define as 'qualified'?

Unfortunately, teaching can be a stressful job and it often results in some staff turnover. If your child's teacher leaves and is replaced by another teacher this can be upsetting for your child. Try to prepare them by explaining the change to your child in advance.

Training & Teaching Skills

A company that invests in their staff will always reap the returns. Ask about what type of training is offered to the staff. Most states require that all employees have a certain amount of hours in training. If this is up to date, you will see it in the on-line inspection report.

Curriculum

Always ask what curriculum is being used. Some of the well known curriculum types include Abeka, Creative, High Scope, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Theme based, etc. The curriculum must be stimulating enough to keep your child interested. Keep in mind what your child already knows and what you would like them to know at certain milestones. Then assess whether the curriculum in question will meet those needs. Remember different children learn in different ways, so think about what makes your child smart.

On-Line Inspection Reports

Most states have these now. It gives you a snapshot of how the facility of your choice stands with the regulatory body. Usually a Childcare Consultant visits the center once or twice a year to assess how well the center is in compliance with the state regulations. These reports are the records of these visits. They outline what the consultant observed while they were at the center. Now, remember that this is usually written in "bureaucratese" but if you take the time to comb through it, it could save you a lot of wasted time.

Step 5 - Know About the Industry Regulations

Who is Responsible Childcare Regulations in your State?
Everybody has a boss and the daycare or childcare industry is no exception! In fact it is heavily regulated, for obvious reasons - they take care of our most prized possessions - our children! Each state has a regulatory body that oversees this role and they are often linked with the Department of Human Resources. Click on the link below to see who regulates the childcare industry in your state.

What Are the Governing Body's Expectations for Your Child?

Many states have developed 'Standards of Care' (or the equivalent) that daycare facilities are expected to meet. These documents outline the levels of care that can be provided. I have found in my research that you can usually bank on this - the higher the level of care, the higher the price. In other words, much of the time, you get what you pay for.

Ratios

The student to teacher ratio tends to vary from state to state, but the internet makes sure that this information is only a few clicks away. Georgia, for example has the following early childhood ratios:

6 weeks to 12 months 1 : 6

1 year to under 2 years 1 : 8

2 years to under 3 years 1 : 10

3 years to under 4 years 1 : 15

4 years to under 5 years 1 : 20

Ratios vary from one state to another, so check out my website to find out the staff to student ratios in your state.

Your child's class should always be within the state ratios - that's the number one rule in childcare. If you find a NAYCE (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accredited center, know that they are always below the ratio, as their standards are higher than that of the state. Understandably so, NAYCE accredited daycares or pre-schools usually have slightly higher prices to pay for the extra staffing costs.

I hope this gives a starting point in the quest of finding a daycare for one of the most important people in your life! All the best in your search....

Having heard the cry of your baby is one of the hardest things for parents of children. If it is better to carry a baby to cry or let one of the most contentious issues in parenting the child. Here we summarize some of the sights.

Truby King method of parenting the child fell out of favor in recent years. It 'a model that relies on strict procedures - do not feed on demand, strict bedtime routine, lots of fresh air for the child, and not to sleep with him in your bed. Supporters ofThis method statement that babies sleep in a month and parents to reduce fatigue, but opponents argue that the method is a form of baby-harassment and it is too restrictive for parents to enjoy their children throughout the night. If you follow the Truby King method, until you know your child is fed and clean, then you would cry himself to sleep.

In 1960, the best-selling child care by Dr. Benjamin Spock was written. According to the strict upbringing that before, many childrenThen the ideas of Dr. Spock was almost revolutionary. He said that all children are people and that parents can learn how to make their children, observing them and, to do with what feels right at that moment. His philosophy of parenting a child was understanding of love and empathy, and suggested that it was perfectly fine to take the child and comfort her when she cried.

Another view of infant education is supported by the supporters of the ContinuumConcept, which was popular in the 1970s. This method of parenting recommends holding your child constantly for the first 6 months and sleeping with them. Followers say that by putting your baby in a sling and carrying on with your normal life is what people do in many parts of the world, and that it builds happy, well-adjusted children, and reduces post-natal depression. Opponents believe that it stifles children's independence.

Today, most parents favour a mixture of these techniques. Babies are unique and you will know your child better than anyone else. Don't be afraid to let your baby cry for a while, as long as you know they are safe, clean, and not hungry. There is also nothing wrong with picking up your child to comfort them. Babies only cry when they need something, and that can be something as straightforward as a cuddle from mum or dad. Infant parenting is often scary for new parents; take your cues from your child and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

A child who wakes up at night is one of the most common problems for parents who struggle to overcome her baby. A step toward understanding how to help a child to sleep better at night, is a better understanding of why having a baby wakes during the night. In this article we will highlight the five most important reasons for a child to wake up at night.

1 Your child has a sleep association

Graco My Ride

"Sleep association" are also called "sleep props" or well-known "crutches". This means that your child has a specific item or somethingthat have been conditioned to believe that "need" to be able to fall asleep. For many children, this is one, pacifier or bottle-feeding to sleep. For other children, this may be a certain movement, such as rocking, jumping, running, or a ride in the car. Some children are more demanding, will leave on a combination of crutches like bounces sleep with a pacifier.

The age of the child and the type of association sleep are two things to takeTo take into account in determining the best approach to help teach a child to fall asleep by himself and his dependence on his crutch, broken sleep. There is also a good idea to keep in mind the temperament of the child in creating a training program for sleep.

2 New milestones in the development

If the child learns to crawl up, pull, walk or talk, these are all stages of development that your child can sleep at night or nap during break time. The most important thing to keep inSpirit with insomnia is caused by developmental milestones, your expectations are realistic, because even though it might not seem like your child is learning a new skill, this does not mean that they do not learn. Although a developmental disability may temporarily interrupt sleep milestone progress, this does not mean that the child does not even sleep habits, if you stay consistent with your sleep training. When the child reaches the age at which they learn to be able toThey sleep on their own, then nocturnal awakenings are less frequent and less disruptive for the whole family.

3 Your baby is teething

You might think that your baby is teething constantly for two years, especially when many children experience teething problems before a tooth is not finished yet. If you make your baby teething seems more likely to wake up one night, can be difficult to know how to manage continues to teach your child to sleep well. Parents can ask, "My childPain? "" And 'why my baby up all night? "Often a child waking up through childhood diseases is a passing phase, go to a new baby, it's their regular sleep habits if they are better, as long as the feeling that parents have tried to stay consistent with putting child sleep, as it has before and during teething teething. Try to have a sleep schedule in place for your child during this teething stage.

4 Child hungry

Many parents learn that their child shoulddo not require feeding during the night after a certain age. This may be true if every child had exactly the same and have exactly the same needs. It is simply not the case. On average, most children need to eat or even two to six months. It 'important to remember that 11-13 hours long for a child with a little' tummy to go without eating. A child awake at night to sleep hungry or without a combination of power are fed and often feed at night onlywhat a child should also continue to sleep for the rest of the night.

5 Children are people.

It 'true that most children thrive on a good program and routine, parents can sometimes lose perspective, and confused that her baby is not sleeping the same every day. Children are human beings and not robots. You can have up to a certain unpredictability about them, their personalities, desires and needs. There are some children who sleep and wake up like clockwork to doBut there are also many who do not. In the same way that a parent can not be exactly the same time each day hungry, a child can not sleep at the same time every night. Children are good days and bad days like everyone else to sleep.
