Can You Have the Odd Tipple and Breastfeed?

When a mother is expecting her child and plans to breastfeed, she often thinks that she has to avoid all spicy, fatty, sugary and salty food. In fact she has to give up all foods that make life worth living! She is also supposed to abstain from alcohol: gone is the delicious glass of red wine with a plate of garlicky olives. But is this true?

Well the answer is 'not entirely'. Current research says that occasional use of alcohol (1-2 drinks) is not harmful to the nursing baby. The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Drugs classifies alcohol (ethanol) as a "Maternal Medication Usually Compatible With Breastfeeding." In plain English, what they recommend is 'if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed'.

Graco My Ride

So exactly how much are you allowed to drink? Current medical experts recommend that a breastfeeding mother should not drink more than 1-2 units of alcohol per week. A breastfeeding mother should also avoid breastfeeding 2-3 hours after drinking alcohol. Less than 2% of alcohol consumed reaches her breast milk.

There are some myths about drinking and breastfeeding. The first being, that you can get rid of the alcohol in your breast milk by first expressing and then feeding baby later. There is no need to pump & dump milk after drinking alcohol, other than for mom's comfort -- pumping & dumping does not speed the elimination of alcohol from the milk. Another myth sometimes espoused is that drinking will increase your milk supply. This is not true; in fact, it has been shown to reduce the amount of milk produced.

If you do drink alcohol whilst breastfeeding your baby you should bear in mind the amount you drink and the age of the infant. A newborn has a very immature liver, so minute amounts of alcohol would be more of a burden. Up until around 3 months of age, infants detoxify alcohol at around half the rate of an adult. An older baby or toddler can metabolize the alcohol more quickly.

Here are some of the effects that drinking has on breastfeeding;

1. 2+ drinks may inhibit let-down(Coiro et al 1992; Cobo 1974).

2. One study showed changes in the infant's sleep-wake patterning after short-term exposure to small amounts of alcohol in breastmilk -- infants whose mothers were light drinkers slept less (Mennella & Gerrish 1998).

3. Daily consumption of alcohol has been shown in the research to increase the risk for slow weight gain in the infant.

4. Daily consumption of alcohol (1+ drinks daily) has been associated with a decrease in gross motor development (Little et al 1989).

I hope the above hasn't put you off the odd tipple. One of my personal delights in life is drinking a glass of Barolo wine when eating king prawns fried in olive oil, cayenne pepper and garlic, using a French baguette to clean out the frying pan. When it comes to eating and drinking, everything is good for you as long as you do it in moderation. So be sensible and don't be afraid to raise the odd glass to your beautiful baby.

Can You Have the Odd Tipple and Breastfeed?

You may be experiencing many broken night's sleep due to toddler night-time sleeping disturbances which may happen from time to time for a variety of different reasons.

There are many strategies a parent can put in place to help their toddler to sleep. For example early morning sunlight or street lights may brighten your child's room and cause early morning wakening. If this is the case the problem can be solved by putting up a black-out blind.

Graco My Ride

This was a problem my son had, he use to tell me that his room was too bright and he couldn't get to sleep or he would awaken too early. The black-out blind was a wonderful help, you can get these from your local curtain store.

Also it is important to make your child's bedroom inviting, something that as parents we try hard to do. Many parents do, in act, decorate their child's room with welcoming colours and their toddler's favourite Disney patterns or other favourite pictures. A good idea may be to position their favourite toys within view of their bed which will make it more inviting.

If your child sees his favourite toys when he goes to sleep or wakes up this will provide reassurance for him.

In fact a comfort soft toy could provide strong reassurance for your child. When my daughter was about 3 months old I put a little soft toy beside her that was always there when she woke up.

This became her beloved toy and she took it everywhere with her. Even as a teenager she still has parts of that soft toy left (an arm and leg) that she simply loves the smell of. A comfort indeed!

To help with the transition to a toddler bed that your child will enjoy, which has in fact solved many a sleeping problem look at the above link at this could well help in your time of need.

Taking Care of a High Needs Baby Part 1

At eighteen months old, my granddaughter is a joy to be around, but when she wants something, she wants it right now! She acts like she has absolutely no sense of time. She has worn many necklaces and in fact loves to wear and play with jewelry. One day I put a pearl necklace on her to wear when she got her pictures made. This necklace was not tight on her what- so- ever, but she decided she wanted it off! So I start to undo the necklace - it has a tiny clasp, so it was taking me longer than what she wanted to wait. She starts screaming like I was beating her up. It upset me so much that I start looking on the Internet, to check symptoms of different mental illnesses. Is she obsessive compulsive? Does she have a touch of autism? Is someone being abusive toward her? I check all of these illnesses and more. Thank goodness she didn't seem to have any of the symptoms for anything I checked. So then what could be going on with her? I know from her actions, something is definitely going on. Could it be the little boys at the Baby Sitters are picking on her? She also seems to be way over- sensitive. Most babies cry when they want something, but she screams! She is also very empathetic. If she is around people who are upset, she too will become very upset.

So I continue to search the 'net, and I find that many, many parents are going through the same thing. Many are at the end of their ropes, and my heart goes out to them. I'd like to be able to help them, but we're in the same position. I finally find something that resembles what she is going through. The experts call it a High Needs Baby. The advice varies widely, from CIO, "Crying It Out," which is by the way what my granddaughter's doctor told my daughter to let her do. We didn't care too much for that piece of advice, and it definitely didn't help us. The advice goes from one extreme to the other, with the other being "Attachment Therapy," actually attaching the baby to you and carrying her around at all times, to letting her sleep in-between you and your spouse at night. Most of the parents were trying just about everything, and we weren't far behind them. We have ran the gambit of maybe she's in pain, maybe she's hungry, maybe she needs more one-on-one attention, etc ... I am going to share with you the things I've learned from my many hours of searching. I hope you get some comfort out of knowing that there is a name to this kind of behavior, and you're not alone.

Graco My Ride

You may find that your baby is a high needs baby as well. Newborns may protest group care with their high intensity cries demanding attention immediately. The cry from a high needs baby is not a request, but a demand. They cry loudly, feed voraciously, laugh with gusto, and protest more forcefully if their needs are not met to their satisfaction. Because they feel so deeply, they react more powerfully if their feelings are disturbed.

One mother says, "If I don't feed him as soon as he fusses, he falls apart." This seems to be a common statement among parents of high needs children.

You can read the intensity of the baby's feelings in her body language. The fists are clenched, back arched, muscles tensed, as if ready for action. They scream when they cry as if something is urgently wrong.

As toddlers they have the drive to explore and experiment with everything and anything! No household item is safe. They're hyperactive and hyper- tonic. Hyper- tonic refers to muscles that are frequently tensed and ready to go, tight and waiting to explode into action. The muscles and mind of a high needs child are seldom relaxed or still. They may stiffen their limbs and arch their backs when you hold them and are frequently seen doing back dives off your lap.

High needs babies can extract every ounce of energy from tired parents and then want more. The seemingly constant holding, nursing, and comforting leave little energy left for parent's needs. High need babies seem to feed more frequently; most parents feel like they cannot feed their baby fast enough or meet their demands fast enough. They do not like waiting and do not readily accept alternatives.

The positive side is that parents who respond to and wisely channel the high needs child, will raise a person with determination, one who will fight for her rights and become a leader, instead of a follower.

Read Part 2 for more information of what you can do, and information about the high need child's sleep pattern.

Rounding out baby goods store lately? By now you must have an idea of prices and features ordinary strollers sold in the market today. You must have just come across Peg Perego Pliko P3 strollers in many rounds you.

The Pliko prams, as I want to call them, are among the top industry of prams. Functional, durable, comfortable and easy - features are what sets Pliko P3 strollers buggies among other baby prams.

Graco My Ride

Weighing only 16 pounds, it is a baby stroller easy indispensable designed to suit our lifestyles and busy modern. This is not an adventure to say that babysitting is easy-peasy!

Suffice it to say, Pliko stroller is an all-around. If you're lounging in the yard with your kids bouncy, a walk in the park or a quick run to close shop, or travel miles to see Gramps life away, cart is just dandy.

My most favorite features include:

• Hood and pockets converts into a canopy for protecting baby against the sun, in one easy unzip.

• Optimized easy portability, with one-hand folding.

• Travel-system compatibility. Viaggio car seat can easily be attached directly to Pliko retractable anchors.

Due to its aluminum frame, it does not carry the weight of other large strollers while still being durable and strong. Parents will find it easier to handle and mover the Pliko P3 strollers, because of its height adjustable and ergonomic handlebars and the wheels actually complete with lock-in for good ride.

If you and your child love to go out most of the time, routine weekend activities such as picnics, malling, and other fun activities, you must have thought of adding more to your chikabiddy go-about.

Expanding in terms of features and functions, that is.

Peg Perego strollers are easy to expand and accessorize according to the new needs of your child. A closer look at its features will say it is designed with our modern needs in mind. That alone is value for money.

How about when you have a second passenger in the trolley? Pliko P3 has a built-in rear foot board for a safe and comfortable ride for an older child on a hitch.

Detachable water bottle holder is depicted in the cart too, and a front tray for quick snacks and play.

Storage is not a problem. Baby stuff purses or diaper bags and toys can be thrown in the storage basket underneath for safe keeping.

Strollers Pliko P3 is probably the most aesthetically blessed (in other words, funky) stroller I've seen in stores recently. It's hot-off-the-shop look is really not bad. The fabric is gorgeous, smooth and comfortable and the paddings are of superb quality. It's quite fascinating.

There are 10 color combinations to choose from and my favorites are kiwi and Tropical. There are other strong colors and also smarter, whichever you prefer.

Fantastic New Baby Bouncer by 4moms

Very exciting news is a buzz with the recent launch of a brand new design of baby bouncer/swing range by the company 4moms.

This group of moms new there must be something better than a traditional baby swing or old time bouncer as they do not simulate the actual movements we make to put our children to sleep, but there was not. So with a high tech research team and equipment came the birth of the Mamaroo baby bouncer. It is so unique and quite different to other Baby bouncers on the market as it has to axis of movement to simulate the real bounce a sway movement we all do to comfort our children. Horizontal and vertical to give a real life feel of its 5 settings.

Other features including great solid construction are, mains power supply, Reclining seat, Built in speakers with 5 nature sounds and a plug-in for your Mp3 player, great for those white noise or ocean waves mp3's, Removable toy mobile.

Available in: Green, Silver, Black, Orange, Pink and Red

Here are some comments from Mums and Dads that have the Mamaroo baby bouncer.

Great product

I just received our new mamaroo baby bouncer today, and I absolutely love it. It is very stylish...it looks even nicer than the pictures show. I am amazed at how it works and my daughter, who has been very fussy due to teething, absolutely loves it! It is definitely the best soothing technique I have found! I was a little sceptical at first and was concerned that with all of the motions that it would be very loud, however the mamaroo is so quiet, you almost can't hear it! If you are looking for a product to make you and your baby's life a little easier for a very reasonable price, please try the MamaRoo!!

Amazing, May 18, 2010

My baby was a baby that had to be held ALL the time. He is a baby that loves to cuddle and the only way to get him to sleep was to cuddle him and sing to him. Since we got the Mamaroo, that has changed! He will lay in it and put himself to sleep! I could not ask for a better baby item. It is a must have!

My opinion:

Our second child suffered with Reflux/Colic and if you have experience with this you know how heartbreaking it is for both child and parent.

This is where a baby bouncer/swing has come in very handy for soothing the little one. But sometimes just a bounce or swing is not enough to do the trick. This is where the Mamaroo baby bouncer comes into its own as it has been designed to simulate the real bounce and sway movement that Mum naturally does plus you can play your chosen music or sound your Baby likes. Priceless.

The initial years of a child's life are undoubtedly the most significant towards their development; and because children are particularly impressionable during this time, their environment and mode of learning stands as a foundation upon which their future is built.

Children need to explore and play as much as possible during these early years in order to develop their creative and cognitive processes. At the same time, parents need to ensure that their children gain exposure to various enriching means of learning - from visual toys for an infant, games for a toddler, or puzzles for a five-year-old - because children constantly turn to their surroundings as a source of learning and development.

Graco My Ride

Infants love to look at contrasting colours and patterns; in fact, at four months, babies are able to organise visual information according to brightness, shape, and the proximity of the objects. They can even recognise faces and gestures, in addition to imitating them. Therefore, providing a baby with bright and visually stimulating toys - even if they're not yet old enough to play with them - is highly beneficial to their development. Soon, a baby will begin reaching towards the shapes and colours on toys, furthering motor skills and stimulating the senses.

An inclination to explore and experiment is apparent in children just as soon as they can move about on their own. But generally, the one-year mark is about the ideal time to actively begin encouraging the development of a child's imagination and creativity by providing not only various games and toys to play with, but by incorporating things like art and music into their games. In addition, children at this age will rapidly develop recognisable thinking, communication and social skills, so it is vital to encourage them to play with other children in addition to just playing with their parents. A musical game or a paint set can be loads of fun for a group of children and their parents to engage in together.

Once children become a little older, their skills and capabilities become more advanced; they start to demonstrate problem solving skills, read and write, and their confidence levels begin to build in various areas. It is therefore essential to provide them with challenging yet enriching activities to partake in; puzzles, crafts, and sports are among the countless ways in which you can encourage a child at this age to develop his or her skills.

Parents and teachers have a number of fantastic resources and online toy shops to turn to for tools that will help their children grow and develop their skills to full potential. Whether you provide your children with games or toys to play with at home, or activities to supplement their learning process in school, you can rest assured that they will benefit immensely - not only because they'll be exploring and learning, but because they'll be having fun in the meantime!

If you have young children or teach in a school, take advantage of the critical time during which children develop; encourage cognitive, social and emotional development by providing them with a loving, secure and enriching environment. After all, the developmental process for a young child greatly influences not only his or her youth, but many aspects in later life.

With the weather finally cooling down, many parents worry that their kids may not get enough physical activity indoors. The solution to this problem is indoor playgrounds. They have become more and more popular over the years and in a country like Canada, where 6 months of the year the weather is wet and cold, they are a great day retreat for the kids.

The playgrounds usually have slides, climbing towers, bouncing castles, infant play areas with foam mats, and lots of ride-on toys. There is an area for eating food and usually a microwave or small kitchen. Many places have nursing rooms and areas where you can change the baby. The bathrooms are kid-friendly. Most indoor playgrounds make their income from birthday parties and celebrations. They offer party packages and provide large party rooms with all the supplies you need to celebrate. Some are not open to public on the weekends due to their party schedule, so it is best to check their websites for hours or call before planning to go. On a weekday they often have a price that covers play time for the day. Here is a list of places I have been to and recommend in the Greater Toronto Area. Pack a lunch and some snacks and head on over!

Graco My Ride

Taima Zone Indoor Playground,
3450 Ridgeway Drive, Unit 10, Mississauga
Taima Zone is a fairly new indoor playground (opened in 2009), but has already become a favourite of mine in Mississauga. While there are many indoor playgrounds in the same Mississauga area as Taima Zone, it has separated itself from the competition by being a large clean facility, with lots of comfortable seating for parents, and a great sturdy play structure for kids. They have large party rooms and a wonderful nursing room with a one-sided window that you can see the play area through.

Balls of Fun Indoor Playground,
3615 Laird Rd., Units 15-16, Mississauga
Balls of Fun is one big ball gym. They have balls of every size and type and lots of rooms for kids to run around and play. They have a large play structure, and a small room just for toddlers and infants. If you do visit this playground with an infant, I strongly recommend staying in the smaller room, or in the eating area, as you can get hit by balls there. I feel this playground is more fun for active kids that are a little older: ages 3 and up.

Small Wonders Discovery Centre,
140 Capital Court, Mississauga
What I like about Small Wonders Discovery Centre is the variety of activities and multiple rooms they have. They have a play area with a car track and ride-on toys. They have an arcade for older children and a soft play room for younger children. They even have an area with live pets such as parrots and snakes. This playground offers more than just play time, but also an opportunity for the kids to be creative and learn something new.

Amazon Indoor Playground,
1500 Royal York Rd. Etobicoke
This is a smaller location that the others I have listed, but a very nice and clean facility. It's great for a party and they let you rent the entire facility for your own use. They do not have much for older children and the play area is most suitable for kids ages 5 and under.

Lil' Explorers Clubhouse and Indoor Gym,
190 Bullock Drive, Unit #10, Markham
My boys love this playground. I think it's the airplane thing at the top that they can sit in and look down at everyone from that is their highlight. Again, this location is not as large as some of the others I have listed, but it is clean, has a large play structure and lots of fun things for the kids to play with.

Chuck E. Cheese's,
Chuck E. Cheese's are restaurants/indoor playgrounds that have been around for years. They offer great pizza and fun games for kids of all ages. They are usually busy with birthday parties, but it is a great evening out with kids when it may be tough to get dinner on the table. You can check their website for a location near you.

Try out an indoor playground on a rainy afternoon or when the snow in on the ground to keep your kids active over the winter season.

Indoor Playgrounds in the Greater Toronto Area

Whether it's your first child or a second or third, there is obviously a lot going on in your life to get ready for the arrival of your new baby. One of those tasks is creating the tranquil sanctuary for your baby to call home. I just had my third child, and my first girl, so even though I have a nine and a six-year-old boy, we had a whole new world to create for this feminine bundle of joy. Transforming a room into a nursery can seem daunting but it really can be done in a single weekend.

Long before the weekend arrives you'll need to start preparing. The first thing you'll need to do is to pick out the crib bedding you will be using so that you can match the paint. If your dream nursery has a theme - ladybugs, dandelions, nautical, etc - the crib bedding is a great place to execute said them. Pick a color of paint for the walls that works well with the bedding you are using. Paint is a cheap way to make a new look without a whole lot of work You also want to use a color from the bedding to pick out the curtains that will tie the room together. Your bedding, curtains, and walls need to work well together for a polished look. In advance you'll also want to consider if you'll be using any new molding, beadboard, etc.

Graco My Ride

You can find instructions, tools required, and supplies needed. Keep in mind, step-by-step instructions on the internet always look and sound easier than they are in reality. The guys that create those instructions are professionals and anything done repeatedly is easier than figuring it out for the first time. Never fear, you will figure it out, it might just take a few extra supplies in case of any mistakes. The point is, you don't want to have to make several trips to the hardware store throughout the weekend, so make sure you have all tools, nails, glue, etc that are required to complete the project. This will allow you to limit your extra trips from 17 to just a couple.

In summary, before the weekend arrives you'll need the following:

• Crib, changing table, dresser... baby's furniture necessities

• Crib Bedding

• Coordinating Curtains. Curtains that do not exactly match the crib bedding, but rather pull out a color or texture from the bedding to utilize on your window treatments is preferential.

• Paint. Use an "inspiration piece" to pick the color. I use the crib bedding and pull a color from there. Often, it is the less prominent color in the bedding that give the nursery the most pizzazz.

• Décor Accessories. The accessories are often what will pull the room together. I like to choose decorative frames, a wall growth chart, wooden wall letters, a rug, even matching trash cans and tissue box holders if its in your budget. Don't forget those extra touches to really drive home your theme if you have chosen one. It's often the little things - hand painted dresser knobs, a few pieces of art, a little sign on the door - all good places to tie the theme together. But word to the wise... don't go too crazy. A lady bug here and there is classy - a lady bug on every possible surface in the room is overboard, and likely to frighten your baby. Just kidding, but seriously, don't take the theme too far.

• Project Specific Supplies. I love the cottage look of bead board, but a chair rail or crown molding can also add an extra special touch to the room.

Now that you have all the supplies ready for the weekend, it's time to get started. If the room you are changing is empty right now then you are ready to start the process. If not, go ahead and get everything out. Once the room is cleared out, the first step is to prime (if necessary) and paint. Once the paint is dry you can start with any new molding or beadboard that you picked out.

Now that the hard work is out of the way, it is time for the curtains that you picked out. Once those are hung, move the babies' furniture into place and it is on to the fun stuff: accessorizing! Decorative frames, wall letters, rugs and growth charts are all great ways to add a lot of character to your nursery with just a little money.

Once the accessories are hung and you have the right colors and textures in place you can stand back and admire your babies' glorious new home. So...preparation is the key to completing the nursery in a weekend. Make sure you have everything ready to go on Saturday morning so you aren't wasting time on trips to the store. Be prepared and it'll go smoothly.

Parenting Tip - How to Soothe a Sick Baby

Sadly, nearly every baby experiences some sort of sickness the first year of life. Some of the more common illnesses your baby might experience are the flu, a cold, an earache or stomach ache. For parents, it's very difficult to see your robust, active and happy baby turn miserable and limp. Of course the first thing you should do is contact your pediatrician's office or even urgent care or a hospital depending on your baby's symptoms for treatment advice. Following that, there likely will be a period of time that you have to just ride out the symptoms and wait for the medicine to kick in and your baby to regain her strength and vigor. Comforting a sick, miserable baby can be worrisome and perplexing for a new parent. There are several things you can do to soothe your baby and make the experience easier for you both.

For a stuffy nose, nasal spray works to loosen things up but your baby probably won't like the experience one bit. I use a tweezers to pull out boogers that obstruct breathing, done while the baby is asleep. Also, elevate one end of the crib mattress by putting something under it so your baby can sleep with her head at the highest part of the incline. Pillows are not recommended for babies under two, so elevating the mattress works and is a good solution. If your baby falls asleep in your arms and you find it difficult to move her to the crib, sliding her into an almost sitting position in a corner of the couch works well to make breathing easier. The down side is that you cannot leave your baby unattended in this position, however it's a small price to pay for a little break from a fussy baby. Warm baths are helpful easing nasal congestion so don't avoid them if your baby has a cold. Humidifiers in baby's room also helps relieve congestion. Baby wipes are a better choice than Kleenex to keep your baby's nose clean or better yet, rotate between the two to keep baby's nose free of obstructions and avoid chaffing. Some parents use bulb nasal extractors but they never worked for me.

To relax and calm your baby you can try a gentle back massage. Also likely touching her skin with the tips of your fingers is relaxing slowly going up and down her legs, head and arms. On her face use one finger barely touching her skin going over her forehead, eyebrows and cheeks. Avoid this on the tummy or neck as it might tickle your baby. Gentle pulling ¼ inch strands of your baby's hair, like you are playing with it or twirling it works for some babies. Don't ask me why, but it's a distraction I suppose for them.

If your baby has gas, position them facing down with your hand supporting her head and her body laying along your arm with legs startled on either side. The upside down pressure usually works to relieve gas and you can walk around with your baby in this position. The different view and position might soothe your baby too.
If your baby has a temperature, and can drink cool water (in a sippy cup) offer water frequently to keep your baby hydrated. Your baby will likely enjoy more cold foods than usual, like yogurt, cold applesauce etc., so offer them freely. A cool washcloth on her forehead will feel good.

It's always distressing when your baby's sick but hopefully by following doctor's orders and using soothing techniques to relax your baby will help make a difficult part of parenting easier.

Yes, I checked the straps to make sure they were even in the middle, and there is no way to adjust which side comes out more since they are stitched together over pegs. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going crazy when I felt like I wasn't getting the same tightness on both sides of the shoulder straps, so I figured out this way to test it. It was even more obvious than the video when you felt it. When I called, Graco told me they didn't think it would be an issue unless it was "inches different". I disagree just a bit, this is designed for SAFETY, I don't want any design flaws. Returned for a Britax Marathon!

Rear-Facing vs. Forward-Facing Car Seats: Laws, Facts, & Demonstrations Video Clips Review : Duration : 15.25 Minutes.

Car accidents are the #1 cause of death for children under 14 years old. Although it's impossible to fully eliminate the chance of death or serious injury, there are steps you can take to significantly reduce the chances of anything happening. The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that every child be in a rear-facing car seat while riding in a car until at least the age of 2. Knowledge is power, and nothing is worth my child's life.

Small children are exposed many things which affects the way they grow up. Bright colors and cheerful music go a long to developing an intelligent and happy child. A lot can be said for the effect that nature has on people in general and more so on babies. However, it is not easy to expose small children nature without taking serious risks, considering their diminutive statures. Being able to take babies and small children on hikes and trails has become much easier with a stroller like the Bugaboo Cameleon stroller. This 20 pound fully featured wonder is made from aircraft grade aluminum making it one of the most durable strollers on the market.

The main attraction of this stroller is its adaptability. The stroller provides a smooth ride and handling experience for both the passenger and navigator. It is capable of traversing as easily over uneven terrain as it would a neighborhood sidewalk. This is due to the combination of its large tires and reversible handlebars. The tires are air filled with the front wheels measuring in at six inches and the rear wheels maxing out at 12 inches.

Graco My Ride

These are used in conjunction with the handlebars, which only need to be reversed to the opposite side, to turn the stroller into an off-road pram. With the bigger wheels at the front, the stroller is placed in four-wheel drive mode making traversing tough terrain less of a hassle and inaccessible areas become a thing of the past. The stock tires may also be replaced by snow tires should the need or desire to do so ever arise.

The durability of the Bugaboo Cameleon stroller is not only attributed to its frame. The stroller comes equipped with a bassinet as well as a toddler seat thus lengthening the lifetime of the pram. The stroller is capable for handling up to 40 pounds, which is approximately the age of a four-year-old. The sturdy frame and maneuverability over tough terrain are what will allow families to take their small children anywhere to see the beauty of nature in all her splendor.

This stroller contains an added feature that will make the most of events like these. The seat is adjustable so that the child can face either direction and never have to miss a moment. This stroller is the perfect companion for an adventurous family; it is tough, versatile and provides comfort and protection for the child.

What Makes The Bugaboo Cameleon Great?

Our understanding of baby psychology and parent psychology is superficial. Much accepted knowledge is based upon erroneous theories and ideas. Baby psychology and parent psychology are interconnected and affect one another. To properly understand a baby, it is important to understand common negative family dynamics, and serious disorders and dysfunctional behavior patterns that are present in the lives of most people. These factors influence exchanges, agreements, and reactions that occur subconsciously between baby and parents.

Before birth and during infancy (until a child acquires social language skills) baby and parent communications take place naturally and primarily as subconscious communications. When parents are extremely selfish and negative, it creates a distressing and painful mental and emotional experience for a vulnerable and sensitive unborn baby or infant.

Graco My Ride

Baby psychology and parent psychology are interconnected

What typically goes on subconsciously and psychologically between babies and their parents is extremely influential and often shocking.

When a couple becomes pregnant, they have mutually created a physical state that comes with serious loving responsibilities.

Physical perils

It is now widely acknowledged that there are physical perils created by a pregnant woman choosing to indulge in alcohol, street or prescription drugs, cigarette smoking, junk foods, and failing to exercise. These choices negatively impact and cause pain to an unborn baby. These choices negatively alter a mother's blood, and because her unborn baby is an integral part of her bloodstream during pregnancy, the embryo or fetus suffers painful physical consequences.

Nonphysical perils

However, there are other types of baby perils. Nonphysical perils. These perils are equally important, and in some instances, more important. I am referring to the "psychological perils" that consistently cause distress and hurt tiny and vulnerable embryos or fetuses. These psychological perils, like the physical perils, require positive changes and positive parenting, if the baby psychology and baby experience is to be healthy and pain-free.

Most expectant mothers and fathers (even those who seem to be caring and doing all the "right" things for their unborn babies) are causing their babies considerable mental, emotional, and physical pain every time they selfishly react in extreme angry or fearful ways. Especially, when they choose to suppress and refuse to acknowledge and honestly express their true negative thoughts and feelings. Negative psychological energies are caustic to vulnerable unborn babies and infants. These negative energies create ongoing stress, distress, pain, and suffering.

Natural clairvoyants

The hundreds of clairvoyant observations recorded by my co-researcher Jean Mastellone have consistently revealed examples of how embryos and fetuses in the womb use their "natural clairvoyance." They can tune-in to, sense, perceive, interpret, and understand what their parents are intending, thinking, and feeling--consciously and subconsciously. They also know what those various mental and emotional energies mean. They do this in primitive and natural ways. Their natural clairvoyant abilities allow unborn babies and their parents to communicate subconsciously, long before a child is old enough to acquire social verbal language skills.

Prenatal reactions

Unborn babies frequently react to their parents' negative psychological energies and states in fearful and angry ways. Their negative reactions, when repeated often, can lead to the development of destructive behavior patterns. Patterns of avoidance, withdrawal, resistance, anger, or aggression usually have roots that reach back into the womb and have far-reaching hurtful effects throughout the growing up years and into adult life.

An expectant parent's negative intentions, attitudes, thoughts, and feelings typically are selfish reactions that relate to the parent's own parents, spouse, sexual partner, or older children, but they can also be reactions to being pregnant and having a new baby. Those negative energies are particularly hurtful and harmful to an unborn baby when they are strong and relate directly.

La la la

Some of the most hurtful psychological maneuvers expectant parents can do in relation to their unborn babies is to consciously ride-above or provide conscious rationalizations and excuses for selfish thoughts, feelings, actions, reactions, and experiences.

Most people do not allow themselves to be consciously aware of what is going on in their subconscious. Most keep consciously distant from their true and basic subconscious intentions, thoughts, feelings, actions, and reactions. Many consciously walk around with rose-colored glasses, selectively blocking negatives form their conscious perception. Every selfish person is choosing to make the bulk of his or her most hurtful and most destructive choices subconsciously.

We intentionally and selfishly block important details and experiences from our conscious awareness, and have little or no conscious awareness of what we are subconsciously intending, thinking, feeling, and doing. We do this so we can indulge in positive self-images and illusions, keep our true intentions hidden from others, and vainly attempt to avoid the full personal responsibility we have for our negative choices and circumstances. Nevertheless, whether we are consciously aware or not, personal responsibility for choices cannot be negated.

Self-deception

A parent who is unwilling to be wrong and unwilling to explore and positively deal with or change his or her negative psychological states are guaranteeing that they will be consistently and negatively impacting-on their unborn babies in painful ways.

When we rationalize and justify wrong choices and actions, and convince ourselves that those choices were "unavoidable," "harmless," "normal," or "uncontrolled responses," we do our babies and ourselves a great disservice.

Consciously, most people manage to pretend that many wrong choices never happened. They refuse to be aware of or acknowledge that the inevitable negative consequences to others or to selves are the result of wrong choices.

As far as unborn babies are concerned the subconscious represents the real and true. They do not relate to pretense, deceptive images, or controlled ideas. It is as if they do not see these "psychological smoke screens."

The depths of the self

Irresponsible individuals like to view their personal subconscious as "alien, dark, mysterious, and inaccessible." That is simply not true. We know everything about ourselves and know where we have stored personal items in our subconscious. If you doubt the truth of that statement, try doing this: Recall the name of your best childhood friend. If you were able to remember that person's name, you just successfully accessed and retrieved data from your personal subconscious.

Depending on how old you are, you probably have billions of bytes of memory data stored as memory in your subconscious. Now consider this, it likely took you a few seconds to recall your friend's name from amongst all the data in your memory files. An amazing feat, accomplished without you consciously knowing what you were doing or where you were looking for the desired information. We access our personal subconscious many times throughout a given day without being consciously aware of the process.

Some believe the lie that their personal subconscious is able to "overpower them and make them do things (usually destructive) that they did not intend or desire to do." That is another selfishly irresponsible lie.

The truth is there is nothing that we intend, think, feel, or do, that we do not subconsciously and deliberately first choose to do. This is an unalterable fact of life.

No rationalizing

A baby in the womb is especially vulnerable to his or her mother's negative thoughts and feelings (which never "just come over" her from out of the blue). Every time a negative thought or feeling enters a parent's conscious awareness, it resulted from a subconscious choice that, first, was selected, energized, and activated or enacted, subconsciously. We subconsciously initiate, control, and orchestrate everything we think, feel, and do.

It is vitally important to the well-being of every embryo and fetus that parents do not dismiss or make light of so-called "unwanted" negative thoughts, feelings, actions, or reactions. Whenever a pregnant woman thinks to herself, "I do not want this baby," then, quickly reassures herself, "That is silly, of course, I want this baby." I have been hoping and planning for it for years. That kind of negative thinking and rationalizing is not a light matter for her unborn baby. Her baby will sense, see, and know her deeper thoughts and feelings. Pregnant women (and men) should stay with their conscious negative thoughts and feelings and make time to explore them by going deeper and asking "Why? Why was I just thinking or feeling that?"

Become an explorer

Were an expectant parent to stop when having a negative experience, then, go inward, and follow his or her negative thoughts and feelings, a door would open to the personal subconscious and its relevant content. This investigative process hinges on the person being sincerely willing to see and be wrong about negative truths about self in relation to the pregnancy, the new baby, the parental relationship, and family situation.

Attempting to trace back a negative attitude, thought, feeling, action, or reaction to one's basic intention will lead to better self-understanding. Making the effort, and being willing to take full responsibility for choices and circumstances, will place an expectant parent in a psychological position to make positive, lovingly responsible changes.

Such choices and changes will help to clear the negative conscious and subconscious mental and emotional atmosphere that their unborn baby is experiencing. This would greatly reduce their unborn baby's discomfort, irritation, fear, pain, and suffering. What more motivation might expectant parents who sincerely wish to be positive parents need? []

Colic - It Can Drive You Crazy

  • Digg
  • Del.icio.us
  • Reddit
  • RSS

Colic is one of those mysteries that still hasn't been solved. Nobody really knows what causes it, and there's no "one size fits all" cure for it either. All of which means that if you have a colicky baby, the lack of certainty about what's wrong and how to fix it can drive you crazy!

My first baby never had colic, but when my daughter came along - I suddenly discovered the joys of colic in a big way. Evenings were the worst time for her - basically when I needed to be getting the evening meal organised, eaten, cleaned up and hopefully then sit down and enjoy some peace and quiet with my husband once my son went to bed. All those nice, quiet, orderly things went out the window! It didn't just affect me, it affected everyone.

Graco My Ride

The good news is that the crying does eventually stop, and even the colic does eventually stop. But have a crying baby is tough to cope with at the best of times, and when you're already tired and maybe a bit frazzled from a busy day, it's very hard indeed.

Here are some tips that many parents have found useful in either settling a colicky baby to sleep, or at the very least useful in reducing the level of crying.

1) Go for a walk with your baby. Holding baby either up against your shoulder or on your chest are both good positions. Quite often a lot of crying causes gas, so if nothing else you may help to release the gas and so reduce some of baby's discomfort. For very young babies, the sound of your heart beating is often quite soothing, and can help relax them.

2) Go outside for a walk. Grab the pram or stroller, and go for a walk. Babies love to see new things, so the distraction provided by a walk around the block may be helpful. The regular motion of the stroller can also help to relax baby.

3) Rocking. It doesn't matter what you use, whether it's a rocking chair you sit in together, rock baby's bassinet, or bounce baby's bouncer seat. The rhythmic motion is great for soothing a colicky baby. Again, holding baby against your chest while you rock in a chair helps because baby can hear your heartbeat.

4) Go for a drive. Okay, I always felt a bit silly driving around and going nowhere in particular, and I have to say that initially, if my daughter was still screaming, it wasn't much fun, either. But although I tried to only resort to driving when I was really struggling to cope, it certainly was effective. Most babies can't resist the urge to fall asleep when they're in a car.

5) Music. Babies love music, so start singing, or even turn on a radio or TV. Music often soothes a crying baby, particularly lullabies. Some babies show a marked preference for a particular musical style, and even if it doesn't send them off to sleep, may help distract them enough to stop crying.

6) Sucking. This method worked very well for my daughter - she wanted to suck something. At first I thought she was hungry, and so tried to nurse her some more, but my maternal health nurse said that could actually be making things worse. So she suggested a pacifier. My daughter would never take a pacifier any other time, but when she had colic in the evenings, she really seemed to feel better when she could suck on the pacifier. Once she stopped getting colic, she never wanted it again. I think by then her thumb had taken over too!

Hopefully out of all these ideas, you'll find one or two that will help to either soothe your baby or send baby to sleep. And remember - at some point colic does go away. Make sure you keep your health care professional informed about the colic, because if it goes on for too long, it may be necessary to check for other causes.

Also, if at any point the crying really is driving you crazy, to the point where you can't cope any more - it's vital to take time out. Hand baby over to your spouse or a trusted family member or friend. If you really don't have any other option, make sure baby is in a safe place (i.e. the crib), shut the door, and walk away for five minutes. It's better to do that than to go over the edge.

Always remember that you're not alone - talk to people you trust, and you may well find out that they had a colicky baby too. There are websites that can give you more information, or perhaps a forum where you can meet other parents going through the same thing. The worst thing you can do is isolate yourself, believing that somehow it's your fault - it's not.

Winter Travel Safety with Baby

Sudden snow storms, blizzards, and sleet are some of the hazards you might face when traveling during the winter months. People who live in areas prone to winter weather are used to the harsh conditions. But those of use who do not live in these locations need to take precautions when traveling there. Especially when traveling with children.

Whether you are visiting relatives in the northern states or just driving to the local mountains for a day in the snow, you will want to be prepared for any event. There are some things you can do, and bring, to help you survive an unexpected incident.

Graco My Ride

Before you leave

Check the local weather channel for the current and projected forecast. If there is a chance of bad weather, then do not go. Nothing is worth risking your family's safety.

Make sure your cell phone is charged before you leave, but be aware you might not have service everywhere along your route. It is possible, should you become stranded, and you might have to hike to find a signal.

Arrange to call someone when you get there. Should this person not hear from you in the allotted time, they can call the authorities for you? Also, be sure to let them know what route you will be taking, so they can alert rescue personal where to look should they not hear from you.

Your Emergency Bag

When packing your vehicle for the trip, consider putting these items into your car, just in case.

Blankets, Sweaters or Sleeping Bags The biggest danger you face, if bad weather strands you in your car, is the loss of body heat. Bundling up will extend the time you can stay in your car until help arrives.

Food and Water You want to keep food and water in an emergency bag in your car. Bottled water is the easiest to buy and store. You should keep about one gallon per person. You also want to keep high-energy food in your emergency bag as well. Pretzels, granola bars, and breakfast bars are good choices to keep. These kinds of things do not go bad over time, and can be very filling.

Light Sources Keep a good flashlight, with spare batteries, in your bag. You can also keep some of those glow sticks in the bag, to help keep your kids entertained and less afraid. Most camping supply stores carry emergency flashlights and glow stick.

First Aid Kit Every person, whether they have kids or not, should have a first aid kit in their car. Emergencies happen without warning and you never know when you might need a bandage.

Extras to Pack

Kid Items If you have an infant pack extra diapers, wipes and powdered formula. Pack small toys or an entertaining game for older kids to play. If you should become stuck somewhere, you want to be able to keep your children calm and distracted from what is happening.

Should You Become Trapped

First thing you should do is remain calm. Panic will not help and will only make things worse. Take some deep breaths and remember you are prepared for this.

Second, do not leave your car unless absolutely necessary. Your best chance for being rescued is to stay with your car. It is safer to remain where you are than to try to find your way in unfamiliar territory.

Prepare yourself ahead of time, before you get into your car to go for that winter drive. Pack your car with the proper gear to insure your family has the supplies they will need should the unthinkable happens. That, along with a cool head, is what you will need to keep your family safe.

Most children can drink from a cup with assistance by the time they can hold their head steady while sitting - about six months. By nine months, many can handle a trainer cup (a cup with a lid containing a spout) on their own, and start using a small, regular cup around twelve to fifteen months. if your baby has not become attached to her bottle as a comfort object, it shouldn't be hard to wean to a cup.

While there is no benefit to weaning early, waiting too long just tends to make the process more difficult. A good plan is to start when your baby is six to nine months and gradually increase the frequency of drinking from a cup a your child gets better and better at it. At some point, you and your child can agree that the bottles aren't really getting used much, and its time to give them to a baby who needs them.

Graco My Ride

Its not uncommon, though, for toddlers to get locked into battles with their parents over the bottle. The child wants to keep it, the parents want her to give it up. the parents plead or try to make deals, the toddlers holds out. The parents take the bottles, the toddler has a tantrum and refuses the cup. Eventually, the parents given in. Everyone feels angry.

If you find yourself in this situation, there are a couple of ways you can go. One is simply to make the bottles disappear. You are sure to face a tantrum, or a string of tantrums spread out over a few days, but in the end your toddler will accept fluids from a cup and stop yearning for the bottle.

A less drastic approach is to insist that the bottle is for meals only, not for carrying around during the day or sleeping with at night. Once that's been established, you can gradually replace the bottle with a cup, one meal at a time. Another technique is to water down the milk in the bottle, adding a little more water each week until it is all water, while still serving milk in a cup. Usually before getting to this point, Toddlers decide that the stuff from the cup (undiluted milk) tastes better.

If you are not familiar with eBay daily deals, these deals consist of random products being offered for only one day or less than a day - eBay can end the deal early if they decide to replace the deal with another deal or if the deal sells out. These products are offered at deeply discounted prices and they ship for free. The MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price) is usually much higher than the price that the item is actually being sold for. This usually gives a buyer the impression that the item is being offered at the best possible price, when in fact, the item can be found for less on eBay.

Just about every daily deal that I've found on eBay, can be found on eBay for less. You do, however, have to be careful of the shipping since not all items on eBay ship for free. As long as you factor in the shipping, you'll be fine. For example, I was looking at an eBay daily deal for a new Toshiba 1080p HD camcorder that was being sold for .00 free shipping. Just by copying and pasting the brand and the model number into the eBay search box, I was able to find the same camcorder (exact same specs and condition) at a buy it now of free shipping. That's a savings of .00 or 11% off. I didn't even do a thorough search - I only checked the items being offered at a buy it now and had the results sorted by best match - I didn't even check the auctions.

Graco My Ride

You are probably asking yourself, how is this possible? Doesn't eBay look for the best possible price when selecting their daily deals? The truth is that they don't select deals based on price. The daily deal program has many requirements - I can't tell you exactly what the requirements are but I think they have very little to do with stock on hand and price. One thing that is for certain, is that the program caters to Powersellers. Another thing that seems to be important is the amount of transactions that the sellers have had on eBay - this was determined by looking at the feedback scores of the sellers offering the deals and the many rumors circling around the internet.

My take on all of this is that these requirements defeat the purpose of the daily "deal" because it prevents people from getting the best possible price. I cannot say that these requirements offer added protection or safety because they don't - eBay's buyer protection program offers the same protection on all transactions. eBay refers to the sellers offering these daily deals as trusted sellers, but you can always determine this yourself by checking the feedback score of any seller.

So to sum it all up, if you are thinking of buying an item that is being offered as an eBay daily deal, always search eBay to see if you can find a better price on the exact same item. Remember to compare the specs of the item, the shipping price and the reputation of the seller.

What's the Deal With eBay Daily Deals? Are They Really the Best Deals on eBay?

Finding the Right Paper Cutter

You've got a lot of options for replacement or beginner paper cutters, and it can be confusing to sift through all the features to find the perfect trimmer. This guide is meant as an overview of the different trimmers available and my favorite machine in each category.

Manual Guillotine Paper Trimmers

Graco My Ride

Guillotine paper trimmers come in either wood or metal base. The base will either have its own clamp to secure the paper, or you will hold the paper in place while cutting. They also have an arm with a blade underneath and handle that you operate to cut the paper. This type of paper cutter is meant for occasional or low volume paper cutting- usually they can handle between 10 and 30 sheets of paper at a time.

A good choice for a smaller guillotine paper trimmer is the Dahle 212 Professional Cutter. Unlike some other low-volume hand trimmers, the blade arm stays open until you make a cut. It prevents injuries and unwanted cuts that can happen with a loose, falling arm. The maximum length of paper you can cut with the Dahle 212 is 12 inches.

This is the easiest to use and least expensive type of paper cutter, and the 212 is only about .

Martin Yale also has a line of high-quality guillotine trimmers ranging from small, tabletop models to larger floor models. At the same price and style as the Dahle 212, the Martin Yale W12 will cut up to 15 sheets at a time and features a plastic blade cover for extra-safe cutting.

Going into large floor model paper cutters, you can cut up to 30 sheets of paper at a time, thicker papers, and card stock. Floor models are also well-suited to cutting large drawings, art board, and other materials.

Dahle, again, has a high-quality floor model trimmer for about 00. The Dahle 585 Guillotine has a maximum cutting length of up to 43 inches, and a foot operated clamp makes it ideal for large format work.

GBC's Ingento CL570m Classic Maple Series is another option for large floor models. It will only handle paper up to 36 inches wide at 15 sheets a time. However, it is more versatile than the Dahle 585 in that its stand can be removed to convert it to a tabletop model, and less expensive at only about 0.

All manual guillotine trimmers have a maximum length of paper they can cut. If you need to cut larger or varying lengths of paper, a rotary trimmer might be a better option.

Rotary Trimmers

Rotary trimmers are distinct from other trimmers in that they can cut greater lengths of paper and newer models offer a variety of cuts other than just straight lines. You have more control with a rotary trimmer because you slide a small, two sided blade up and down the length of paper to make cuts. High-quality rotary trimmers typically make cleaner cuts than guillotine trimmers, and come in manual or electric models for large volumes of preset cuts.

Keencut makes a sturdy, economical manual rotary model - the 18 inch Keencut Technic Advanced Rotary Cutter. It boasts a well-built aluminum and silver anodized base, but is only good for paper up to .08 inches and not thicker materials. But for just over 0, it's an economical option.

If you're looking into electric rotary cutters, Keencut also has some solid offerings, but Kobra, Rotatrim, or Neolt are also good choices. Neolt carries the Electric Trim Series 200 - a good high volume electric rotary cutter. It will cut up to 79 inches wide, and includes a self-sharpening blade. It is foot or switch operated, and a reliable electric drive.

Stack Paper Cutters

Stack paper cutters can cut large stacks of paper or card stock - up to 750 sheets. They are similar to guillotines in that they have an arm that operates to cut the paper. With a manual stack cutter, the arm has a spring mechanism that provides the force to make cuts when you operate it. There are also electric stack paper cutters, which are made for higher volume use. They come either semi-automatic (with manual back gauge and clamp) or fully programmable.

The QCM 1200E Heavy Duty Cutter is a quality manual stack cutter that only costs you about 0. It has a cutting capacity of up to 1.5 inches and blade length (the max width of paper it will cut) is 12 inches. The QCM 1200E is close in price to many guillotine cutters and can handle about 10 times as much paper at once. QCM also has the 1700E, which has the same 1.5 inch capacity as the 1200E, but a blade length of 17 inches. Both are superior stack cutters, and QCM offers lifetime warranties to the original purchaser on all their stack cutters.

As far as electric stack cutters, my choice for automatics is the Standard PC45 Paper Cutter. This cutter is about 00 and is made for print shops or other offices that need to cut many large piles of paper or card stock every day. Back gauge operation and paper clamp are manual.

If you're looking into programmable electric stack cutters, they are more expensive than automatic, but can be programmed to save many cutting sequences and save much time and work for the operator. The Standard APC-45 Paper Cutter is about 00. It can save up to 30 programs of 99 steps each, so you can set it and have it do your bleed trim work and basic cutting for digitally imprinted stocks.

Finding the Right Paper Cutter

First, it seems that there are still a lot of people, that are falling into the whole "Eco Friendly Candle" dis-information campaign!

We still have people come up at shows and ask us, "Do you make the all natural, cleaner soy candles?" For a split second every time I hear this I just about blow up! But then Reality, my Humanity and Logic takes over and I simply explain some of the facts and the reasons why we choose to make the candles that we make.

Graco My Ride

I guess I just don't understand why many of people just read or hear supposed (facts/fiction), and take it as absolute truth. Well I guess I should understand it. Look at almost any election and it's easy to see that things continue to stay in a mess, but that's another discussion. Let's focus on candle wax.

Paraffin vs Soy Wax

So, let's look at the word "natural" for a minute.

Mirriam-Webster.com - as an adjective

#10a. growing without human care; also: not cultivated

Dictionary.com - as an adjective

#1. existing in or formed by nature ( opposed to artificial): a natural bridge.

#5. in a state of nature; uncultivated, as land.

#6. growing spontaneously, without being planted or tended by human hand, as vegetation.

#7. having undergone little or no processing and containing no chemical additives: natural food; natural ingredients. Compare organic ( def. 11 ).

-as a noun

#38. a natural substance or a product made with such a substance: an ointment containing mink oil and other naturals.

"This should be an Easy Putt from here."

This part of the discussion should be finished but, I am sure it's not. Both waxes come from natural sources.

If you think about it and educate yourself, you might come to the conclusion that crude is far more natural than soybeans.

Soybeans:

This simple fact should be apparent especially if you take into account that soybeans, as we know them, are not exactly natural. This was taken from the Organic Consumers Association and they site: "US soy, the world's largest source of genetically modified food and animal feed." It is also heavily subsidized upward of 70% by your tax dollars.

More education materials below, and there are many others as well.

wikipedia under search "soy"

mercola.com search "genetically engineered soybeans may cause allergies"

So do all of the previously mentioned definitions fit? You Decide.

Crude:

Surely you know where crude comes from right? Plant and Animal matter highly compressed in our mother Earth for millions of years without any assistance from mankind until it is found by man and used, just like the original soybean, for the good of mankind.

So do all of the previously mentioned definitions fit? You Decide.

"Can someone please run out and pick me or dig me up some candle wax? I need to order soon."

So when companies say that their candles are all natural, step back a minute and think. Maybe you could ask them where the cinnamon bun or cotton candy fragrance oil was dug up at. "Oh the Laboratory, yeah that's it."

Both waxes are refined from their natural resource, one from crude oil and one from soybean oil. I won't bother to explain the details of both processes but each use chemicals and other things in the refinement of these natural resources to finally end up as wax in many forms. Both are food grade and used widely in many industries like for instance the nice shiny vegetables and fruit you may have recently eaten."Shiny and somewhat protected from bugs compliments of paraffin wax"

However, for this discussion I only care about candles. More importantly Highly Scented Candles and the waxes used. If you are interested in educating yourself on these refinement processes you can go here for a start with sites like IGI Wax for paraffin, and fao.org for soy:

Renewable?

Both are also renewable as well, sort of. If there was a horrible drought and or the government quit subsidizing it, would soybeans be as renewable?

On the other hand no matter what we do. I'll say again, "No Matter What We Do", the Earth will continue its cycle of making natural crude whether we are here or not.

Sometimes the light of truth just smacks you right in the middle of the forehead doesn't it?

What do they mean by Eco friendly?

One of our biggest suppliers of Palm wax has recently stopped selling it because of the very real issue of de-forestation of Palm.

The soy industry has done a great job of convincing people, that Paraffin wax is toxic, unsafe and generally evil. Once again truth comes to the rescue. One only has to look at the National Candle Association or NCA which is widely recognized as the leading technical authority on candles and candle manufacturing. The answers are out there when you look. Paraffin is not toxic or evil and is completely safe to burn when well formulated and burned safely. Same goes for Soy.

"Paraffin candles soot" Oh, really!

Well this is another misleading statement. All candles can, and will soot. It does not matter whether it is Soy or Paraffin. If the wick is not kept properly trimmed and or the flame is disrupted due to ceiling fans or other air disturbances you will get soot. Paraffin soot is darker and Soy soot is lighter in color. Soot is however Soot.

I guess the point is that everyone should get educated before blindly deciding that one thing is bad and the other is good just because one side does a great job of demonizing the other with false information and outright lies. Think for yourself, and not just about candles, but anything that you might be presented with. I think it would make for a better world if we all just took the time to actually think about things logically and become educated.

So look, I am not against protecting the environment, not at all. If I think that something will actually help, I am glad to do whatever I can to help keep our world a better place. However, with this one, the facts just don't bear out any problems. If you feel better buying soy candles or paraffin candles great. Please use whatever you like! It's sort of, a free world. Just do it for your own reasons and not from anyone else.

Why we use our proprietary wax blend

Well in our continuing efforts to develop High quality, Super strong, and Long Lasting candles we took the path of researching and experimenting with our own blends of highly refined wax. We use many ingredients in our formula including Paraffin and Soy. Yes we use some Soy but not because of the environment. We incorporate a precise amount because of a particular property it has. We use a lot of other ingredients in our formula as well but, for one reason only. We want the best scent throw we can get! This drive for excellence and quality in our products is number one for us. Our formula provides this and we continually strive for improvements. Simply put we push the envelope in the scented candle world. We believe you will easily discover that our candles are the Best Highly Scented Candles you will find anywhere.

We do have one warning however, and I mean this very sincerely. If you are a very sensitive asthmatic person and you use candles, which most do not, please do not use our candles. At local shows like the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, you will know we are there when you enter the very large building. When you smell say for instance, Macintosh Apples upon entering, just follow the scent as it gets stronger and you'll find us. We are not allowed to burn the candles in the building. This just comes from a candle warmer with our formula in it. Anyhow, a small handful of times, particularly sensitive people have sped up and walked by complaining. We do apologize and feel very sorry for those that have this affliction.

For those of you that want unusually strong and what customers say are the best scented candles, you've happened upon the right place. Please feel free to browse our website, ask anything you like and most of all enjoy the fragrances you choose and spread the word.
