Everyone deserves a little getaway and if you think that travelling with a young child is out of the question think again. Here is a list of top 5 Caribbean destinations that make travelling with a baby more enjoyable for everyone. Before you pack your bags, read my tips for travelling with children.
1. Bahamas: The Atlantis-it would be great if you could bring all of your baby gear with you on your trip, but that's not possible. Here is where the hotel comes to your rescue. The Atlantis has partnered with Johnson & Johnson and it provides families with a Gentle Travel Kit, as well as a few extra services. The hotel has a Prompt Response line for parents who need to order things that their baby might need: extra crib sheets, a baby bathtub, bottle warmer, sterilizers, strollers, and even a small fridge for bottles and baby food. There are more than 100 babysitters available who are all qualified in CPR and childcare. When a guest books his/her trip and requests a crib in the room, the hotel provides the Gentle Travel kit which also includes tips about keeping up baby's routine while travelling, Johnson & Johnson products (bedtime cream, head-to-toe body wash, and soothing naturals moisture cream), lullaby CD and a specialty nightlight.

2. Jamaica: The Franklyn D. Resort-it is the only all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean that provides you with a full-time nanny as part of your package! Parents' Magazine survey ranked The Franklyn D. Resort & Spa the # 2 Best Family Beach Resort for 2010. You can have a romantic dinner for two at The Pier Restaurant while your Vacation Nanny looks after the little ones. The resort may not have fancy rooms, but they do make up for it in their size. Everyone gets a suite with a living room, kitchen and separate bedroom when travelling with kids.
3. Turks and Caicos: Beaches-this resort is set on 12 miles of white sand in a preserved national park. The resort has the Sesame Street gang and an endless variety of crafts to entertain the little ones. There is a new Italian Village with family suites, and a water park expansion that opened up last year. The resort has a supervised nursery for babies as young as 4 months as well as themed camps for 2 kids and up (it is all part of the all-inclusive price). In addition, all Beaches locations have counsellors who have received training to work with special-needs children.
4. Mexico: Club Med Ixtapa Pacific-this resort is a family-oriented, all-inclusive location that just got a total makeover. There are new pools, new rooms, and new restaurants. The Ixtapa has all of the chain's innovative children's programs. There are children's lessons for almost any sport you can think of: soccer, archery, kayaking, and tennis. Even your 2-year old can take part in the resort's circus schools. Toddlers mainly stick to magic tricks while those that are 4 and up learn how to walk a tightrope, fly through the air on a trapeze and juggle. Infants 4 to 23 months get their own nursery with music, developmental toys, and all the gear they need.
5. Dominican Republic: Club Med Punta Cana-Club Med's imaginative circus school will teach your kids 4 and up how to ride a unicycle, juggle and some magic tricks. This and the property's numerous other supervised children's programs like learning about native music and dances, meals, and sports activities are all included in the price. There is a Family Escape promotion that is bookable through April 30 making the cost fairly reasonable for a family of four. Families with infants automatically receive a changing table, baby bathtub and bottle warmer in their room as part of the resort's "Baby Welcome" program.
Travelling with children is a lot different than travelling by yourself. It does require more planning, more time, and more patience. However, a successful vacation is possible if you are prepared.
